Michael McCarthy is a studio potter focusing on wheel thrown, woodfired functional pottery, and we are thrilled that we've been carrying his work at Pinch for over 15 years.
Michael’s work is made for use in the everyday. With a focus on strong forms and subtle finishes, his pottery is intended to add to, not overpower one’s personal space.
Primarily self taught, Michael moved to western Massachusetts in 2000 for a three year apprenticeship with potter Mark Shapiro. He then completed artist residencies at Anderson Ranch in Colorado and Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic before returning to western Massachusetts to establish his own studio and build his wood burning kiln.
