"love poem
when you wrap your arms
around me and fold my body into you
i know what it is to be held.
when you breath a naughty secret
into my ear, your lips soft and warm
as a whisper, i know what want is.
when you press our hands together
palm to palm and your fingers stretch
over mine, i know what safe is.
when your kisses tell me unending stories
that lead to lost places in my heart,
i know what it is to be found.
when your heart pounds against
my ribs and your eyes stare into the space
behind mind, i know what wildness is.
when i lie still under you or over you
and breadth the scent of sun-scattered hay
of ancient marsh, of saltwater tears
i know what joy is.
when you sleep curved around me
your warmth softens my bones
and i bend like a rain drenched rose
and i know what peace is.
when i wake in the darkness
and know you are turned away now
lost to the shimmering, beckoning night
i know what it is to love."
