Meet the Artist: Judy Jackson

Meet the Artist: Judy Jackson

Pinch began carrying Judy Jackson’s pottery in 2009. We, and our customers, are huge fans of her minimal designs, warm glazes, and understated elegance.

Of her work, Judy says: “I use stoneware for its durability. I make functional pottery. I also do decorative, but I think beauty follows function, and beautiful, elegant, functional pieces should last. I’ve never been comfortable painting, which you can do with low-firing pieces like earthenware. Far more interesting and satisfying to me is dipping and pouring a glaze on stoneware, following the line and form of the piece.”

In addition to her popular dinnerware, Pinch stocks Judy’s bottle vases, planters, cookware, teapots, mugs, tumblers, and ramekins. The colors of her work range from neutrals to vibrant blues and greens. All of Judy’s stoneware is made to be functional, and is thus microwave, dishwasher, and oven-safe. Her simple, modern pieces make great gifts for weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. There's no doubt that Judy's handcrafted pieces add touches of elegance and class to one's home.

Judy has been a professional potter for 30+ years and makes use of a variety of techniques in her ceramics—her pieces are wheel thrown, slab built, slip cast, or made with a combination of these methods. Her matte glazes are dipped and poured before being oxidation-fired to a durable stoneware temperature. She has an unending respect for form and loves the adaptability of clay to take on shape.
