Former Pinch owner donald a. clark reads and signs new book at Pinch

On December 15, 2022 at 6:30 PM at Pinch, former Pinch owner and national ceramics expert donald a. clark, reads from his newly-published book, Contemporary Black American Ceramic Artists.

Co-authored with professor and ceramicist Chotsani Elaine Dean, this important work features compelling interviews with 38 of today’s Black ceramists together with more than 300 stunning photos of their work. Especially crucial in these times, donald a. clark and Chotsani Elaine Dean seek to provide these artists the recognition long overdue them.

The authors take us through the contributions, presence, and experiences of African Americans in ceramic history in America. This important and necessary information – with its impact on the medium as a whole – is beautifully and engagingly presented to makers and craft appreciators alike.

ABOUT donald a. clark
Donald Clark began collecting and studying makers and their ceramics in the 1970s. He continued to learn and build his collection based on relationships with artists during his over 30 years of experience at Ferrin Gallery and P!NCH. Clark moved on to be the Research Manager for The Marks Project.org, an online searchable database, documenting the marks of makers working in America from 1946-present. His first book
Making a Living in Craft was published by Lark in 2007. He is also the author of numerous articles in national craft magazines.
